## Surf Forecast Data

Each surf spot forecast includes:
- Breaking wave height in feet (calculated from offshore swell using spot-specific bathymetry)
- Dominant swell height, period (seconds), and direction
- Secondary and tertiary swell components
- Wind speed (mph), direction, and gust speed
- Tide predictions with times and heights
- Water temperature and air temperature
- UV index and weather conditions
- Surf quality rating (Excellent through Poor)
- Minimum and maximum breaking wave height range

## How It Works

Swell Intel uses NOAA's Global Forecast System (GFS) wave models at 0.16-degree and 0.25-degree resolution. Offshore swell data is transformed into breaking wave heights using each spot's coastal bathymetry profile, transect bearing, and beach slope characteristics. This provides more accurate height predictions than raw buoy or model data alone.
